Shaped Bokeh Tutorial

Ever seen images with little heart shaped (or any other non-circle shaped) lights in the background? Something like this, maybe?

My first bokeh.

The shaped light is called “bokeh” (technically, the term is incorrect, but that’s all I know to call it) – and I can teach you how to make your own!

Here’s what you’ll need: a camera with manual focus capabilities, cardstock or stiff paper material, scissors (or shaped paper punches) and tape.

How I got my bokeh.

•Using the scissors, cut out a small section of cardstock. It can cover your lens completely – or not, I saw no difference.
•Draw a shape you’d like to cut out, or use a small shaped punch (available at tons of craft stores – but I cut my own shapes here) to punch a shape in the cardstock and cut/punch accordingly.
•Affix the cardstock to the center of your lens using the tape & play around with the manual focus and take some really cool pictures. Tada!

Star shaped bokeh
