I’ve been craving Asian food a lot lately – and these pot stickers were the cure! The original recipe (by Food Network’s Guy Fieri) is here, but I omitted/changed a couple things and got a little fancy with the wrappers (which increased the prep time by about 20 minutes – but they are so cute!)
Here’s my slightly tweaked recipe…
Ingredients:
- 6 ounces ground pork
- 1/4 cup diced white onion
- 2 tablespoons minced ginger
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon canola oil
- Pinch salt and pepper
- Wonton/potsticker wrappers
- 1 egg, beaten
- oil for frying
Directions:
In a medium bowl, add the pork, onions, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, canola oil, salt and pepper. Mix together until thoroughly combined.
In a medium stock pot, boil 2 quarts of water.
Place of the mixture in the middle of a wrapper. Brush the edges of the wrapper with the egg and fold in half, (My way/optional: you can also create a small “purse” by bringing the four corners into the middle and squeezing the sides together.) Repeat with the remaining wrappers, until all of the meat mixture is used.
Place filled wrappers in boiling water for 2 minutes, remove and cool on cooling rack.
When ready to eat, heat pan with 1 tablespoon oil, and saute on medium-high heat until the skin of the wrapper is browned. Serve with extra soy sauce for dipping. Note: “Asian Salad” or a side of stir fried bok choy makes a great tasting and easy side dish.
