Purple Rain, Purple Rain..

Purple Rain

Did I mention I am so ready for spring? Blooms, birds, beautifully warm weather – I can’t wait!

PS
This is a really old photograph, taken about 2 years ago, at City Market in Savannah. Precisely, it was taken of a flower cart outside of Vinnie Van Go-Go’s – which just so happens to be where I’m taking my mom and sister for dinner, the Monday after they arrive here on Tybee. Yayyy! It’s their first visit here, so I’m pretty excited. Good times!

Spring Cleaning – The Guestroom!

Inspired by Heather’s post (and awesome studio makeover) I thought I’d post a peak into my “studio” too!

I’ve been a busy bee in the soap/guest/everything else-room lately – and it’s finally ready for public consumption.

The blinds are functional again, so the sunlight can actually get into the room.  Oh – and that bulletin board? I totally refurb’d that myself.

& It matches my purse!

The leftover fabric (purchased from this Etsy shop) has made for some nice camera lens baggies – and I’m thinking I’ll cover my plain old sketchbook with some too.

In other news: I am so ready for spring to get here!
Thanks for stopping by :)

It’s a piece of cake to bake a pretty cake.

Pink Cake White Frosting

1 Box Duncan Hines White Cake Mix + 20 drops red food coloring + 1 tub Duncan Hines Vanilla Frosting = the prettiest cake ever!

I made it for Valentine’s day and it was dee-licious. In other news, I’m glad to say one of my photographs was recently featured on the cardinalhouse blog.

I’ve been busy with Soap Kitchen stuff, as usual – and I can’t remember the last time I went out and photographed anything. (I blame the crazy cold weather!)

Hopefully, as spring gets closer and things start blooming, I’ll have some new photographs to post :)
PS the title of this post is inspired by this crazy song.

Easy Peanut Brittle Recipe – delicious too!

Crunchy Peanut Brittle - perfect!

Hardware:
1 Spatula (silicone works best.)
Measuring Spoons/Cup
2qt Saucepan
Medium/Large cookie Sheet

Note: I also recommend spraying all of the ‘hardware’ with cooking spray, just to make sure nothing sticks. Also, have everything measured and ready to go before you start boiling stuff, so you don’t have to leave your brittle unattended.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup Karo light corn syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups peanuts (I used roasted & salted from a jar.)

Directions

  1. Mix and set aside the butter and baking soda.
  2. In a 2qt pan, mix and boil the sugar, water, and syrup to hardball stage (254 degrees F) or for about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat (and turn to low) and add the butter/baking soda mixture.
  4. Place pan back on low heat, add peanuts and stir constantly until mixture turns yellow; about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Pour onto greased cookie sheet.
  6. Smooth into a thickness you like with the back of your spatula.
  7. Cool (for at least 30 minutes) and break into pieces.
  8. Enjoy!

And another great thing, this recipe is pretty versatile. You could use just about any nut and add in all sorts of other stuff for flavorings. Like what? Well, shredded coconut, red pepper flakes, maybe some cinnamon – just to name a few. You can even dip it in chocolate (after it’s cooled and broken up) for super decadence. Yum!

Now, please excuse me while I try not to eat it all in one sitting…

Coming Home

Sand and Sky

Tomorrow: Goodbye Atlanta, Hellooo Tybee.
I can’t wait to get back to this :) I’ve missed the beach! Even if it’s too cold to really appreciate, I do love our little slice of the island.

Snack time! My Favorite Etsy Edibles

I thought I’d take a moment to share some of my favorite Edibles from Etsy. I’ve taste tested at least a few of them, but I bet they’re ALL fantastic.
